Moong Dal Halwa

Moong Dal halwa not only tastes delicious but is also aromatic and makes for a great dessert. Made in lots of ghee and topped with dry fruits, this halwa is definitely my weakness.

Moong Dal Halwa requires lots of patience and muscle work and also lots of ghee to come together. It also takes a long time to cook so be prepared for that. But I can assure you that the end result will be worth all the efforts. If you are one of those who love to experiment with your culinary skills, then you must try this halwa recipe at home.

So, if you have already drooled looking at the photo or at the mere thought of this Halwa, get the ingredients ready and treat your family with this delicious dessert.

Ingredients:
Moong Dal (Split Green Lentils) – 1 Cup
Sugar – ½ Cup
Ghee (Clarified Butter) – 5 tsp
Water – ½ Cup
Milk – ½ Cup
Green Cardamoms – 5
Chopped Almonds, Cashews & Raisins – A handful

Procedure:

1. Soak the Moong Dal in water, preferably overnight (12/15 hours).

2. Grind the Dal into a coarse paste in a grinder. Avoid using water as we need the paste to be thick.

3. Put a pan over medium flame and add ghee. Once ghee is hot enough, add the ground Dal paste and roast until the ghee is absorbed by the paste. Make sure to keep stirring it well to roast evenly, for almost 20 – 25 minutes.

4. In a separate pan, add milk, water & sugar and bring it to a boil.

5. Add the water into the pan where the halwa is being roasted. Mix well and keep stirring continuously so that lumps are not formed, for almost 5-7 minutes.

6. Grind the cardamom seeds to make a powder and add it to the halwa. Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4-5 minutes, while stirring continuously.

7. Garnish with chopped almonds, cashews and raisins and serve hot!

Talking about halwa, Moong Dal Halwa is something that wins over any other ones. The reason behind this win is it's mouth-watering and the taste is just out of the world. So go ahead and try out this delectable recipe!

Sounds really healthy? What if I tell you it was high on taste as well? Well you may not agree especially when it has beetroot & carrot!
